Ok, I had another epiphany today. I realized (finally) why my DD’s dancing cracks me up so much. Last night my DH was prepping the kids’ dinners and he said, “come on, its Scebby Doh time”. As soon as he uttered those words, she came bounding into the kitchen doing her coming-to-Jesus dance. You know the dance I’m talking about. Think back to those 80s-90s family sitcoms that always had ‘an African-American church choir coming down the aisle, hands waving in praises and feet dancing/high-stepping, (as the music swells in the background), to rejuvenate the entire congregation’ scene at some point during its run. (That might be a jump-the-shark moment for all I know, but I digress.) Some of my favorite movies have these scenes too as a matter of fact. That Ben Stiller movie where he is a Jewish rabbi comes to mind, but anyway that is my DD’s dance.

In the perspective of a canned pasta meal, it comes across even funnier, I swear. She backs it up too. Once she’s in the chair, she hoovers that stuff down like there is no tomorrow and usually ends up eating someone else’s portion too. DH was complaining of being hungry later last night b/c he said DD didn’t leave him much to eat. Of course, this was probably a complete ruse to polish off the last of the homemade cookies, but I can’t say for sure. So anyway that is my newest epiphany. Some of us cure cancer, others of us figure out what is so freakin’ funny about our kids. We're all here to do our part, right?

Slide Card Quickie Instructions

Ok, ladies, you asked so here goes my attempt to explain the simple slider card. (I tried to find where I got my original instructions, but I am completely at a loss for that one. If I ever come across them again, I will be sure to post the link.)
There are just a few basics to this project. Everything else is left to preference.
You need the Word Window punch, circle punch, and Stampin' Dimensionals.
1--Use the word window punch to punch a channel into about 2/3s of the card, going closer to the top than the bottom.
2--Then punch half a circle at the very top of the cardstock so you can pull the top birds/giraffes slide out to reveal your second secret slider.
3--Lay the top slider (birds and giraffes) inside the card and decide how far up it should go for optimum viewing (but not too far--no more than half the length of the slider).
4--Once you have that slider lined up put a dimensional inside the channel onto the giraffe slider cardstock (from here on called cs). Slide the giraffe cs down and put another dimensional at the bottom of the channel.
5--Now decide how far up the next slider will go (while the giraffe slider is at its top height) and adhere the top slider to the bottom slider on the dimensionals. (Make sure before you adhere your "secret" slider you make sure it will be hidden with the top slider is flush with the card face.)
6--Then adhere the overlay cs (lion/crocodile) over the top "wild about you" slider with dimensionals on all four corners.
I hope these instructions make some kind of sense. Let me know if I have muddled it up even worse!
Enjoy!!

Summer Daydreams

Ok, so my brain has been on hiatus for a little while it seems. I appear to have developed ADHD now that I am staying at home with the kids. I have a million different ideas and projects and only 5 minutes of attention span to do them in...not a good combo!

I am very excited about the new catalog scheduled for release on July 1st! While I am trying to prepare myself to say goodbye to all my beloved retiring stamps, I am itchy to see the complete Fall/Winter Idea Book & Catalog. There is so much buzz about what MIGHT be in it or what WON'T be in it, that I am ready to SEE it and find out for myself. I have heard talk of so many great items that I hate to utter any of them for fear of jinxing the whole deal. But ladies, get excited! There is so much to look forward to and so little time before all will be revealed!!!

I sent out a set of these cards above and had the most fun coloring in with my Stampin' Write Markers. I have to suggest that if you don't have at least one full color family set, there is never a better time to stock up. I have heard the saying that either you like to stamp in color, or you like to color in your stamps. I'd have to say I am a color-in-er for sure.

Here's hoping this summer is finding you well and rested!

Dora from a Dad's Perspective

Well I got the sweetest compliment on my Thank You card the other day, so I thought I would share them with you. I am personally very attached to the Doodle This stamp set, so I can dare to dream that it is included in the new Fall/Winter 2007 catalog.
After the adventure of putting tubes in DD's ears yesterday at Children's Hospital, it was humorous to listen to my DH (which could be Dorky Hubby) read her favorite Dora book tonight. I don't know if he was trying to test her hearing/listening skills or just amusing himself, but his rendition was enlightening at the very least.

Some of his observations....

...an eight year old and a monkey walking into the woods alone...that's safe...abuela needs to get off her butt and make a grocery run instead.

...Backpack has a teddy bear and some mittens...that will keep them warm...the least abuela could do is knit her a sweater before they go.

...Dora needs to ditch Map and get GPS already...there's gotta be another bridge without a grumpy old troll.

...what's with the buck toothed purple chipmunk? Why is he holding a steaming pile of...?

...cross the mud puddle? It's 10 feet wide..walk around Dora! Geez!

Ok, so maybe this might have traumatized my DD but I was personally crying trying to hold off from bursting into hysterics. You might have to be a parent of a toddler to understand how reading the same book over and over becomes a mind numbing experience, but I will now be able to read it another few hundred times with my newly inspired perspective.
